Kentucky Book Festival

A program of Kentucky Humanities, the Kentucky Book Festival is a celebration of reading, writing, and publishing which takes place each fall. Festival events seek to connect book-lovers and authors, spark engaging conversations, and empower readers by providing access to new books as well as opportunities to learn more about writing in a fun, supportive environment. It’s the biggest bookish celebration in Kentucky!

Author Series: Cinda Williams Chima In conversation with Jeff Zentner and Mindy McGinnis

Cinda Williams Chima is the New York Times best-selling author of the Seven Realms, Heir Chronicles, and Shattered Realms teen fantasy series. Her newest duology, The Runestone Saga, (Balzer&Bray) launched fall 2022 with Children of Ragnarok, followed by Bane of Asgard in October, 2024.

Jeff Zentner, author of the New York Times Notable Books The Serpent King and In the Wild Light, and Mindy McGinnis, an Edgar Award-winning novelist whose latest is Under this Red Rock, will lead a discussion focused on of Chima’s latest publication.

Ohio author, Mindy McGinnis, will discuss her novel "A Madness So Discreet" and the treatment of brain injuries and mental illness in the 1890s.

Author Mindy McGinnis shares the research behind her Edgar Award-Winning Gothic historical thriller, "A Madness So Discreet." McGinnis will discuss how doctors treated brain injuries in the 1890s and the different aspects of care for the mentally ill (for better or for worse) including the infamous psychosurgery known as a lobotomy. McGinnis will also delve into a brief history of the Athens [Ohio] Lunatic Asylum, the setting for the novel.

KFPL is thrilled to welcome Ohio author Mindy McGinnis for a visit this September! Books will be available for purchase and signing. Our friends from Traveler’s Coffee Company will have delicious coffee, lattes, and beverages available for purchase to celebrate her visit. The event will be held in the Reading Garden, weather permitting, or may be moved inside. Registration is requested, but not required. 

Mindy McGinnis is an Edgar Award-winning novelist who writes across multiple genres, including post-apocalyptic, historical, thriller, contemporary, mystery, and fantasy.
